It is Fluoride Fact Friday! Today, let’s first talk chemisty, elements, and atoms!
Fluoride is a monatomic anion. That means it is one atom with an extra electron and a negative charge.

Another fact for this Friday …
By keeping tooth enamel strong, solid and resistant to acid, fluoride stops cavities from forming and can even rebuild the tooth’s surface.

The World Health Organization says “To prevent tooth decay: Use toothpaste which contains fluoride and brush your teeth at least twice a day.”
The World Health Organization – the international public health agency of the United Nations – created this inset social media graphic to say that people all around the world should brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste!

For this Friday, we’ve also got a favorite science quote to share:

“Contemplation of the great human achievements through the ages is helpful to me in moments of despair and doubt. Human meanness and folly then seem less important.” Gerty Cori
Fluoride preventing cavities is one of those achievements!
